Dr. Lee Katz

Winery Consultant

Lee grew up in Flossmoor, Illinois. A small village of 2,500 people 70 miles southwest of the Chicago. At the age of 16, he left for the University of Illinois, in Champaign-Urbana, and was admitted to the James Scholar Program. Lee studied pre-medicine and gained academic recognition being inscribed into the Bronze Tablet, representing the top 3% of graduates from the U of I. Not bad with over 10,000 graduates!

He moved back to Chicago where we went to the University of Chicago Medical School and graduated in 1976. It was time to leave the Midwest so off to New Haven, Ct where he did an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Yale University followed by a Fellowship in Nephrology. Lee was not satisfied, so back to training with another residency at Yale in Radiology, joining the Yale Faculty in 1986.

Lee was at the forefront in the areas of Orthopedic Imaging with CT and MRI. In fact, he was one of the first in the United States to perform MRI Arthrography.

Business was always in his blood and so Lee went back to school to obtain an MBA in 1996. Instead of following the usual path of physicians advising in Health Care Management, he took a turn to join Ron Rubin at The Republic of Tea. Lee became the Minister of Health at The Republic of Tea and acted as a consultant to Ron. In 2011, Lee moved from The Republic of Tea to the River Road Family Vineyards and Winery. Recently he received a Certificate in Wine Business Management from Sonoma State University.

His goals will be to continue to help in the organizational design of River Road Family Vineyards and Winery and promote education and innovation.
